The position of the stairs in connection with the lives of the residents of the historic houses of Dezful based on the Canter's place model (houses of the Qajar and Pahlavi periods)

With the passage of time and the resulting developments, there have been changes in the needs and behavioral patterns of the residents; And as a result, there have been changes in the body and structure of the house. By accepting the two-way relationship between the body and the flow of the residents' lives, it can be said that the change in the lifestyle of the residents of Dezful houses has caused a change in the structure of the house and vice versa; This also creates different mental perceptions for the residents over time. n the meantime, the element of stairs as one of the most important physical and formal elements in the architecture of Dezful houses has undergone changes. In this research, it has been tried to evaluate the changes of stairs over time in Dezful houses that pass through the entrance of the living culture of the residents based on the three spatial components of the counter "Body", "Activity" and "Meaning". This research was done in several stages by relying on analytical descriptive method. In the first part, various data on the historical, social and cultural characteristics of the city were collected from texts and documents. In the second part, 29 samples of houses were identified and the necessary documents were collected for the analysis of each of them. These examples belong to the Qajar period and before that, Pahlavi I and Pahlavi II. The third part, which corresponds to determining the characteristics and changes of stairs based on lifestyle, was done through in-depth semi-structured interviews with 21 people. At this stage, the text was coded using the content analysis method and the interviews were converted into propositions that have an analytical load. To carry out this step, it was necessary to determine codes based on extractable topics based on counter components.The findings indicate that the role of the stairs in the three categories of activity, body and meaning includes categories such as visual richness, visual proportions, vertical arrangement, variety and diversity of shape for the body, accessibility, facilitating the activities of users, meeting the needs of the side and increasing permeability. For the component of activity and legibility in the neighborhood, the ability to perceive the place, to create a mental image, the ability to associate meanings, the memory of the place was for the component of meaning, which was also raised from the point of view of the residents.moreover What makes the stairs important in Dezful housing is its bold semantic role, which housing in other cities is less likely to face. However, the staircase in Dezful housing has created a unified overall meaning by adapting human activities to the architectural body through the convergence of three components of form, activity and meaning. In general, it can be said that in order to model the environmental and semantic capacities of the stair element in this city, paying attention to the architecture based on the lived experience and the beliefs of the residents can increase people's satisfaction with the space.
